Something Good In Englewood, Inc. is a community-organizing, engagement, and advocacy group serving families and residents in the Englewood community and the surrounding areas in Chicago, Illinois by providing a variety of social services and resources in education, workforce development, and civic engagement.
Something Good In Englewood supports social enrichment programs. We offer comprehensive wraparound services to families and their children in the midst of a crisis, along with mental health services. We also offer workforce development programs on-site for high-schoolers and young adults to undergird ongoing civic engagement opportunities. We hold partnerships with a wide variety of employers and social service entities to also provide off-site resources and programs to create a robust ecosystem of resources that are tailored to the needs of each student, resident, and family. We support parent engagement curriculum and materials to ensure we meet each family’s needs, so they operate to their full potential.
Something Good In Englewood recognizes the critical role that consistent support networks play in determining social trajectory in our local, national, and global society. We believe that the combination of resources in education, workforce development and social service, and civic-engagement opportunities will ultimately lead to a deep and long-lasting community revival that will be evidenced in:
- Increased enrollment of Englewood children under 6 years of age in educational programs
- Increased number of school-aged children enrolled in after-school programs for social and educational enrichment
- Increased workforce readiness and long-term employment for program participants
- Decreased community violence and recidivism amongst justice-involved youth in affiliated programs
- Increased sense of safety and stability for program participants
- Increased community activism for program participants
It is the mission, duty, and purpose of Something Good In Englewood, Inc. to increase socio-economic opportunities for the Englewood community and its surrounding areas by establishing support programs for residents at critical ages and stages of life that are informed by community, engagement, and advocacy. We believe that the Englewood community and other Chicago neighborhoods like it are powerful and can create a new view and effective guide for community trajectory when properly resourced in key areas of social development.
Research indicates that programs to improve social and educational outcomes in underserved communities are unlikely to succeed unless accompanied by well-rounded policies and resources that address the factors that negatively impact large numbers of our students and residents everyday outside of schools and other community organizations.
That is where Something Good In Englewood comes in. Far too often, programs are implemented and decisions are made about marginalized communities without the input of the residents or engagement with the community. For that reason, civic engagement is at the crux of our programming and resource development.
